The ultimate investment in scientific weight loss: Achieving a complete transformation in quality of life.
Before I started dieting, like all overweight people, I was extremely sensitive to heat. With 50 kilograms of fat covering my body, it was no wonder I felt hot.
Of course, both in my own eyes and in the eyes of others, I was a huge fan of air conditioning. In the summer, my criteria for choosing a coffee shop wasn't the quality of the coffee or the decor; my primary concern was the effectiveness of the air conditioning. I'd open the door, check the temperature to see if it was adequate, and if it wasn't cool enough, I wouldn't go in. Outdoor cafes were obviously out of the question.
At home, wherever I was, the air conditioning in that room was always on, and I'd make sure the air conditioning was on in every other room I went into. If I was going out, I'd set a timer to turn it on beforehand. If I forgot, I'd be too hot to do anything for an hour. Since there was no air conditioning in the bathroom, if I got sweaty, I'd go back to the cool room to rest for a while.
Of course, I'd also sleep with the air conditioning on. Lying in a cool room, with a blanket over my stomach, I'd drift off to sleep blissfully. This results in a staggering summer electricity bill, roughly three times that of an average household.
Because of the heat, it's not just the electricity bill that's high. Frequent sweating also necessitates more laundry.
First, there are the face towels for wiping away sweat. These aren't sold in handkerchief counters, only in towel counters. You need to carry at least three of these, each soaked through, then put them in a plastic bag bought from a convenience store to bring back. In the height of summer, you might need five a day, and even that's often not enough. These face towels need to be washed daily.
Of course, clothes like pants and T-shirts need to be changed twice a day. Entering a well-air-conditioned room without changing out of sweat-soaked clothes can easily lead to a cold.
Other inconveniences arise due to the body shape not conforming to the body's dimensions.
For example, chairs in cafes and restaurants, especially those semi-circular chairs that completely enclose the body, are often too narrow, causing pain and discomfort in the lower back or buttocks. If the chair has armrests on both sides, it's even more troublesome.
If the table and sofa are fixed to the floor, sometimes you can't sit down because your stomach is pressing against the table. If a waiter leads you to such a seat, you can only awkwardly ask to be moved.
When traveling by Shinkansen or airplane, spacious seats are much more expensive. Even for people of average build, the ordinary carriages on the Shinkansen and economy class seats on airplanes feel cramped. If I sit there with the armrests down, I feel practically stuck inside the seat. Sometimes, the stares from the person next to me also make me uncomfortable. If it were me, and a sweaty, overweight person next to me was crammed into a narrow seat and grumbling, I would also find it annoying. Thinking about this, I can only buy first-class tickets, because I travel for work every week, and my travel expenses suddenly increase significantly.
As mentioned in Chapter 3, because the regular seatbelt on the plane wouldn't fasten, I had to ask the flight attendant for an extension. Only pregnant women, sumo wrestlers, and overweight people know about these seatbelts. Knowing this isn't exactly something to be happy about.
Even those charming little cafes become a problem. Because the tables are so close together, getting to a seat is a real struggle. Trying to tuck in your large bottom and body as much as possible, weaving between the tables, is like a dump truck driving through a narrow alley.
Sleeping in a single bed is impossible; you'll fall off if you turn over. If it's not a high-quality double bed, the mattress won't support your weight and will collapse instantly.
While I don't need to replace my sofa, bed, and chairs at home right now, I'll likely save a lot of money when I do need to replace them later.
We live in a society of mass production and mass consumption. Buying anything outside the standard range costs significantly more. Even so, some people still enjoy the luxuries of being different.
However, if it's because one's weight or size is outside the standard range, it's not enjoyable; it becomes unpleasant expense and stress.
But now, that kind of life has become a memory, a recollection left on a distant Earth.
In that world, everything required several times more effort and money.
In that world, there was a lot of pressure every day, and this pressure made you gain weight.
Now, I've broken free from the shackles of gravity and arrived in this new world on the Moon.
After starting my weight loss journey, I posted my progress and reports on my blog and online diary. Many people, after reading them, immediately started the running-up phase or the lift-off phase; some impatient people even reached the ascent phase.
To my surprise, many people also emailed me to express their excitement, such as "It's amazing!" and "I'm really starting to lose weight!" Some even sent me their weight loss diaries.
However, I wrote the blog and diary entirely for myself; I didn't write about the correct way to start a documented weight loss journey or the key points to note at each stage.
Although I'm currently on a diet myself, the thought of teaching others how to lose weight makes me hesitant.
However, after landing on the moon and becoming incredibly light, I truly realized that weight, expenses, time, and stress all decreased to a fraction of what they used to be.
Anyone can successfully lose weight; any method can lead to success. The difficulty lies in maintaining the routine. However, a weight loss journal can overcome this hurdle.
