The truth behind the weight loss craze: On average, each person has tried three different weight loss methods.

I. Understanding the startling facts of the "weight loss craze"

(I) On average, everyone has tried 3 different weight loss methods

Why are there so many popular weight loss methods and a deluge of weight loss books? And why do so many people still fail to lose weight? What kind of weight loss methods do these people actually use? I've always been interested in this, so I conducted a small survey. I surveyed 270 people who tried a total of 890 different weight loss methods, averaging more than three methods per person. I know someone who even tried 48 different methods.

This astonishing fact shows that people who want to lose weight hope to find a "faster, more effective, and more economical" way to lose weight, but despite trying various methods, none of them have been very effective.

So, what are the more effective methods? According to rough statistics, exercise yields the most significant results, followed by dietary therapy. Furthermore, as we can see from the attached table, those who rely solely on equipment or passive methods such as medication also experience limited success.

The worst are those who rely on so-called diet foods, low-calorie slimming teas, etc. to lose weight. They become overly dependent on these things, thinking that "as long as they do it the same way" or "as long as they eat this," they will achieve their weight loss goals. As a result, they eat and drink without worry, and their weight loss plans fail.

(ii) Do not be misled by unrealistic propaganda.

Be wary of the allure of numbers. Is it really true that "a method with a high success rate equals a method that leads to a fit and healthy physique"? I absolutely do not believe so. If you examine these methods one by one, many aspects are questionable. And after seeing so many, I feel compelled to offer this advice: "Stop using these unrealistic methods immediately!"

For example, there's the "smoking to lose weight" method. Those who hold this view claim that some people, once they quit smoking, experience significant improvements in their bodily functions and naturally gain weight; others gain weight because they overeat to satisfy their cravings after quitting. If that's the case, why not simply lift the ban and resume smoking to lose weight? In today's climate of strong advocacy against tobacco pollution and the promotion of smoking cessation, such a concept is truly baffling.

Another method involves using strong liquors like whiskey and vodka for weight loss, based on absurd arguments. They claim that because these are strong liquors, drinking them causes a warming sensation in the body, melting fat and causing sweating, thus leading to weight loss. While few people actually practice this method, a considerable number firmly believe in it, which is quite peculiar.

A vice president of a bartending association supported this claim, so I commissioned a friend who is a big drinker to conduct an experiment, which proved that drinking alcohol does not make people lose weight.

These two examples are not extreme. Other advertisements that seem to make some sense on the surface, claiming "according to scientific reports, they make you beautiful and healthy," are actually similar to the theories about smoking and drinking when examined closely. They are absurd and impractical.

The survey revealed that too many people need to lose weight but are using the wrong methods. Not achieving results is a minor issue; the most unfortunate consequence is harming their health. Therefore, to lose weight successfully, it is essential to use the right methods.
