Debunking the myths about fruits and slimming teas: The traps of low-calorie foods
(v) Fruit myths are unbelievable.
The claim that "fruits are rich in vitamins, which can keep muscles clean without causing weight gain" is widely believed. Therefore, many people replace their three meals with fruit in an attempt to lose weight. However, it's important to understand that not gaining weight and dieting are two different things.
Many people have complained to me: 'Sir, I've been replacing rice with fruit, but I still can't lose weight.'
This isn't surprising; fruit is indeed a source of Vitamin C. However, it's important to remember that in addition to Vitamin C, fruit also contains a large amount of minerals. Therefore, eating large amounts of fruit will not achieve weight loss. In fact, in the weight loss plans I guide, fruit is sometimes prohibited.
Surprisingly, the idea of a fruit-only diet has become quite popular. What happens to those who believe in it? Those who have tried it know the results are far from ideal.
Some people believe that "eating only salads can help you lose weight," but in fact, this has the same effect as eating only fruit.
(VI) The Failure of Chinese Tea
For a time, it was popular to use tea to lose weight. The theory was: "Chinese people eat greasy food every day, yet there are so many slender beauties who can wear cheongsams. This is because they drink a lot of famous teas such as Tieguanyin."
When I visited Hong Kong, I actually washed my hands with tea after handling shrimp and pheasants, and the grease was indeed washed away. That's when I realized that drinking tea can really wash away excess oil from the body. This idea was quite remarkable, so I started experimenting.
I bought all sorts of teas and had the students using the Wada method drink them every week. As a result, they all developed the idea that "as long as I drink tea, I can eat anything without worry." Of course, the weight loss plan failed, and no one actually lost weight. And I still have a huge pile of tea leaves left.
It is clear that Chinese beauties do not only maintain their slender figures by drinking tea. They can also achieve a healthy and slender figure by eating delicious food made from fish, pheasant, vegetables, and seaweed.
(vii) Using laxatives for weight loss
Many women find that the weight they gain during pregnancy remains unreduced even after childbirth. Ms. T, a colleague in my lab, is a typical example.
Ms. T was very concerned about her weight and had tried dieting several times, but each time she only lost 2-3 kilograms and couldn't stick to it because of unbearable hunger. She would quickly gain the weight back as soon as she stopped dieting, and this repeated itself several times, each ending in despair. Once, she met a friend who mentioned that she had lost a significant amount of weight in a week due to dysentery.
This led T to consider using laxatives to lose weight, and she actually tried it. Within two or three days, she really lost a lot of weight; her cheeks became sunken, and her body also slimmed down considerably. This gave her a lot of confidence, so she continued to take laxatives. But later, the laxatives stopped working, and she had to increase the dosage. In addition, T always believed that she was "the kind of person who gains weight even from drinking water," so she rarely drank water and relied almost entirely on laxatives.
One day, he was suddenly rushed to the hospital due to severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with "urethral stones." The cause was urethral stones resulting from taking a large amount of laxatives and dehydration.
T suffered greatly in the hospital until the kidney stones were expelled. After being discharged, T came to see me and said, "I want to lose weight in a healthy way."
Using laxatives for weight loss may seem reasonable at first glance, but it is actually very dangerous.
Some people use weight-loss drugs that are actually amphetamines, caffeine, and other substances that reduce appetite and increase metabolism. These drugs should only be used for specific medical conditions or under the guidance of a doctor; they should never be used arbitrarily. Because if you're not careful, you could potentially die from them.
Recently, traditional Chinese medicine, which has attracted much attention, has also been sold as a weight-loss drug. However, relying solely on traditional Chinese medicine cannot achieve the goal of weight loss.
Of course, I do not deny the efficacy of properly prescribed Chinese medicine, after all, Chinese medicine has a long history. However, when it comes to "weight loss," there is still no direct effect unless it is used in conjunction with a proper diet to improve and regulate stomach function and promote normal regulatory function.
Ignoring this point and directly using traditional Chinese medicine "weight loss drugs" would be a serious mistake.
Some business people are very resourceful. Since advertising diet pills is prohibited, they have switched to promoting weight loss through exercise, and for the sake of health, they have persuaded people to take nutritional supplements or sell appetite suppressants.
According to those who have used it: "Although I am no longer bothered by hunger, I feel weak all over and unable to work because I only drink water and take medicine." This shows that it is a wrong way to damage one's health.
Please remember this: "There is absolutely no such thing as a weight loss drug."
(viii) The trap of low-calorie foods
Recently, low-calorie diets have become popular, eliminating the need for medication or other methods to suppress appetite. Weight loss plans based on a nutritionally balanced diet seem quite reasonable to some extent.
However, for those who "want to lose weight," there are still some questionable points to consider regarding this kind of inflammatory propaganda.
First, let's look at this low-calorie diet plan. It claims to be fat-free, but it's important to know that fat and protein are essential for maintaining good health. A lack of fat and protein will negatively impact health. In fact, one person who tried this method said: "I did lose weight, but I felt weak all over." This diet completely negates the role of exercise. Of course, we can't quickly eliminate excess fat through exercise alone, but the benefits of exercise cannot be ignored. More exercise increases body heat, promotes metabolism, and naturally leads to better health.
It's common knowledge that exercise is not only good for physical health but also a great way to achieve a fit physique. Moderate exercise can burn excess body fat, or even turn fat into muscle, and it can also metabolize old cells and generate new ones.
